Say Yes To Your Dress

“Selecting a wedding dress is more than just a fitting… it’s a process – a memory in the making.”

– Olivelli Cape Town

Selecting your wedding dress is a huge deal. Whether you’re browsing gowns online, scheduling appointments at multiple bridal shops, or thinking of wearing a vintage hand-me-down for some sentimental value, you want to make sure you look and feel your best!

Each bride will have a different experience when searching for their perfect dress… Some brides will try on 3 dresses and go back and forth unable to decide, some brides will feel discouraged when they try on what feels like a million dresses but still isn’t finding the one, and other brides will try their first dress on, sheds some tears, and say YES to the dress.

Just keep in mind that this IS a process, and while it can take some time, this is a beautiful journey that you will remember for the rest of your life.

One of the most important things to consider before shopping for your wedding dress is deciding who is joining you during your search.

If you’ve ever watched the popular tv show “Say Yes to the Dress” (a personal favorite, by the way), then you have seen just how important it is to have an audience with you that is supportive of you and your style.

It can also be a good idea to do a little research before heading out on the hunt for your perfect dress.

Below are some examples of the most popular styles of wedding dress silhouettes.

The Ball Gown

When people picture a ball gown, most envision a dress that would first be seen in a fairytale. A ball gown features a fitted bodice and a full skirt (the fuller the skirt – the more dramatic)!

The A-Line Dress

Similar to the ball gown, an A-line dress begins with a fitted bodice. The main difference between the two is the skirt. A-line dresses have a gradual flared skirt. This silhouette is known for flattering all body types.

The Mermaid Dress

Can you say glam?? This style of dress is for the brides that are going for a sultry, sexy look to show off their beautiful curves. The curve-hugging bodice extends down the waist and the skirt begins to flare at the knees. Mermaid dresses give ultimate hourglass effect.

The Sheath Dress

The sheath silhouette provides a modern and easy-going look. These dresses offer a straight shape that simply skims over your body, letting your natural shape shine.

The Jumpsuit

Not all brides imagine themselves in a dress. A jumpsuit is fun and polished and provides extra comfort, making it easier to bust-a-move on the dance floor! Jumpsuit styles typically come in wide-leg or slim-cut options.

While there are endless styles and features to make up your perfect wedding dress, I’m sure you’ll find the one for you!

Aside from just the silhouettes, think about the color (not all brides want white!), the neckline, the train (short, long, super long??), and sleeves.

Just remember to bring a support system with you, do a little bit of research beforehand, and ENJOY your experience; you can do it!
